HOW COULD BE A SHOPPING CENTER IN 2020...ups, sorry IN 2013!!! or HOW WE CAN UPLOAD THIS TYPOLOGY?

A shopping center is an architectural typology that you use for buying or wasting time.

(*) Inside there aren´t watches (for telling us what time is it) or windows in shops (for telling us if it´s still by day or nevertheless, it´s already by night) ...WHY?  because always it´s happy hour to shop !!!

So, a shopping center is thought as a fortress for making permanently a consumerist covering with ugly outdoor and "attractive" outdoor (outside is not important).

Inside, we can find almost everything !!! There are shops, restaurants, hypermarket, cinemas... Each of them are designed as a "box" with a "label" for writting their names.
These boxes have one or more sides of glass as a call for coming inside (it´s named "shop window") and their indoors is filled with furniture according to their activity or programme (shop, restaurant...).

Normally in the "Shopping Centers", "shops" are the most important box (or activity) therefore they fill up  80 per cent of contained boxes in this kind of mall. But, what is really a shop??

The elements that configure a shop are: shop window (as inducement to come in), shelves (for choosing your kind of inducement or clothes), fitting room ( for choosing a inducement´s size) and payment area  (for cash payment of your selected inducement).

So, 4 elements configure a "shop box" that can upload if we think on them like 4 independent elements, that is, is it possible to  broke this "shop box" and keep the really meaning of these concepts, the really meaning of "shop box".

So, let´s broke the fortress wall of  the shopping centers!!! and put these 4 self-sufficient elements in the city.

(*)SHOP WINDOW: It´s the consumerist landscape that configures the streets in the city... how many times you have walked by the streets looking the shop windows?
when you go to ikea to buying, firt you have to cross its consumerist furniture landscape and write the code of your election...

so, if this shop window is the consumeris landscape of public space like the tree lines in the streets.

but, these tree lines haven´t more use that give us shadow in summer or make oxygen as a vegetal being... so, if we give another meaning to these shop windows line: the meaning of public areas´ limit.

And if the malls was a public areas limited by shop windows lines with codes that you can write and buy in a vending machines through these codes and paying with your credit card?

Now, we have change (*)SHELVES and (*)PAYMENT AREA by VENDING MACHINES.

(*)SHELVES show us all of clothes´ models and you choose them for fitting...
is it necessary that one human being (or shop assistant) help you to do it?  ...i think not.

(*)PAYMENT AREA is the point to pay them... is it necessary that one human being (or shop assistant) help you to do it?  ...i think not.

Besides, nowadays it´s possible to pay with your fingerprint. This payment system is called "PAYTOUCH" or "PAY by TOUCH": this payment system checks your heart bate, corporal temperatura for detecting false fingers.

... But, which public areas have to be included by malls??

And if "public areas" were the public equipment that each city needs according to the kind of population of each district??

Shopping Centers with their private resources help the district where they are located through paying the construction of its public equipment in the middle of private consumerist landscape !!!

For knowing the equipament that is needed, only it´s necessary to compare how many people there are with the needed equipament for them according to their age: KINDERGARTENS, PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES, STUDY AREAS, PUBLIC THREE AGE CARES´ CENTERS...

SO, BEFORE BUILDING SOMETHING, IT´S NECESSARY TO THINK THE REAL NEEDS OF ITS LOCATION FOR AVOID THE POSSIBILITY OF MAKING SOMETHING DIED BEFORE ITS BIRTH... and this is the REALLY paper of architect!!! (in my opinion)

IT´S IMPORTANT FOR THE ARCHITECT, BEING ABLE TO SEE THESE INVISIBLE DATASCAPE TO HELP WITH him/her ARCHITECTURE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR SOCIATY

(NOT ONLY "DESIGNING" BUT THINKING ABOUT HIM/HER DESING)

These pictures show the current needs of two district of my home town (Alicante, Spain)

(*)FITTING ROOMS: in my post //AR (augmented reality) vs QR (quick response codes) vs Holograms: the deconstruction of architectural being//, i write about this point: my conclusion is that it´s no necessary to make physical rooms for fitting us our clothes.

"BODY SCAN TECHNOLOGY" ALLOWS TO MAKE OUR VIRTUAL BODY MODEL AND GIVE US WHICH IS OUR PERFECT SIZE USING ITS DATABASE OF SIZE ACCORDING TO THE DIFFENTS FASHION BRANDS (like a bank statement)

So, one possibility of shopping center could be my firt version in two levels of the "CONSUMERIST FLOWER LANDSCAPE":

(*)"public study rooms": glass boxes (elevated of land for having good views of district) with vegetal roof as a rest area (as a view point of city)... only there is one problem: if you want to come in, you have to across a consumerist landscape or shop window´s lines... it´s imposible don´t see it!!!

(*)"sport public areas" surrounded by shop windows that end with body scan´s machine (red cylinder), it´s possible to go shopping as a couple, that is, men and women with good mood because while one of them is buying, the other can watch or do sport...

by the other hand, if you want to have a brake in your study session, you can buy something and pay it in vending machines (black miniboxes that surrounding sport areas) or do sport (basketball and tennis courts) or watch all of them... or eat something in the vending machines...

(*)consumerist topography: normally, the malls have height because of their more than one floor.
So, the heighter point´s mall has the best views of city and normally it is used as parking or machines´location.

But, if the mall´s covering or wall is exchanged for a spiral route with elevation until the heightest point, we could walk or run (according to our physical condition) thus these ramps while we are looking our built landscape...
So, if we want to take a break...we can buy, eat, walk along, do sport or read something...

But, if we want to eat handmade food, where can we go? to the market!!! but in the malls, there are hypermarkets, is impossible to life together market and hypermarket? ...i think not!!

If the hypermarket´s typology is changed by 24 hours vending machines (black miniboxes)

and If the market´s typology is thought as boxes where you can buy fresh food + cook them + and eat them (or buy them and go home) (red miniboxes)... we can put together into the malls.

So, we could go for a picnic in a mall !!!
Second floor, it´s thought as a consumerist market forest where you can buy fresh food and eat it or just lay out...

And if it´s cold or rainning, there are structures that can be covered for being inside (black lines) or can be classrooms or workshops for people that rent them for a giving a class for a period of time.

UP TO NOW, THE 4 CONCEPTS THAT CONFIGURE A MALL HAVE BEEN REDEFINED FROM THEIR SOCIAL CONDITIONS: A MALL AS A SOCIAL EQUIPMENT WHICH MAKES A CONSUMERIST LANDSCAPE.

ALL OF THIS CONCEPTUAL PROCESS OF REDEFINITION IS POSSIBLE THROUGH "DIAGRAM" AS MY ARCHITECTURAL TOOL FOR BRAKING TYPOLOGIES AND MAKING NEW SOCIAL POSSIBILITIES THAT ALLOW A NEW ARCHITECTURAL CONFIGURATION OR TYPOLOGY

...BUT IF THESE 4 CONCEPTS ARE REDEFINED FROM THEIR TECHNOLOGICAL CONDITIONS, THE RESULT IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!!

(*)SHOPPING: years ago, the new technologies have allowed us to buy anything "ON LINE" but now, they have maden another way to buy "ON LINE":
(my post //AR (augmented reality) vs QR (quick response codes) vs Holograms: the deconstruction of architectural being// explains in detail this item)

THEORY 01// QR´s codes in stead of bar code´s label:
using our smart phone, we could know the lowest price of everything in any part of the world and buy it ON LINE in this moment !!!
Besides extra-commertial information of these goods, clothes...

THEORY 02// i look, i want, i buy:
in the morning, going to your working place, you see another girl with a very beautifull coat... and you want it!!!
It´s no necessary to stop her and ask for it, only take a photo with your smart device (smart phone, tablet, smart watch...) and with your "App" you can know all of its commercial information: price, places that you can buy it, season... and if you want, you can buy it ON LINE in that moment !!!

So, it´s no necessary to design a "real shop" for shopping !!!
So, it´s no necessary to buy on line before your computer or laptop, looking a catalogue in any fashion web !!!
Now, with the technological advances, you can BUY ANYTHING IN ANY WHERE !!! because THE WHOLE WORLD IS A CONSUMERSIT LANDSCAPE...

(So, if going to a real shop is because we want a personal behaviour)

(*)TEACHING & LEARNING:
Is it necessary to teach or learn in a classroom´s typology? i think not...
Nowadays there are another ways to teach and learn like: VIDEO TUTORIALS (that you can see by YouTube or Vimeo) // VIRTUAL TEACHER & 3D ANIMATION in books (they are holograms (AG´s technology: augmented reality) that you can see using your "App" of your smart device)

So, it´s no necessary to build public study´s classrooms as the only way to study or make homework after class...

AND IF THE CURRENT SHOPPING CENTER WAS A LOGISTICAL PLACE WHERE AUTOMATIC MACHINES LOCATED IN WORK´s STAGES, WERE ABLE TO PREPARE OUR DIGITAL ORDER (thus your smart device) AND SEND THEM TO OUR HOME !!!

4 work´s stages: RECEIVE GOODS //  UNPACK&CLASSIFICATION&TAKE OUT THE TRASH // STORAGE AREA // PREPARE ORDERS& HOME DELIVERY&PICK UP//

if we design a "STORE AREA" as a GLASS CYLINDRICAL BOX (for looking goods) with EXIT HOLE (for taking these goods) and with KEYBOARD (for writting good´s codes) and with CREDIT CARD HOLE (for paying): YOU ARE REDEFINED A "STORE AREA" INTO A "VENDING MACHINE"!!!

The shopping center´s structure is ARTICULATED, that is, when one of these work´s stages is without activity, the structure folds itself taking up the minimun physical space and releasing it...

The automatic machines go by "GUIDEWAYS" in the floor according to the kind and movement of each machine

IF WE DON´T USE OUR "BEDROOM" (for example) EVERY TIME...
WHY IT HAS TO BE BUILT ALL DAY AND TAKE UP SPACE THAT IT COULD BE USED FOR ANOTHER ACTIVITY??!!! (my next post!!)

But, WHICH WILL BE THE COVERING OF THIS AUTOMATIC SHOPPING CENTER?
THE COVERING AS A "TECHNOLOGICAL PUBLIC GREEN SPACE":

The covering is made by technological sensor skin that scans any topography (geometry, shape, curve...) and reproduces it (body shapes...) and fitting perfectly with it...

Here, the highest point of mall is not a parking... now, it´s a covering to live in and look its surrounding area !!!
Here, there aren´t classrooms... now, there are "inflatable areas" that can be rent for a period of time and after that they deflate and fold themselves !!!

BUT, ARCHITECTS UNDERSTAND "SHOPPING CENTERS" AS A MONUMENTAL HIGH-TECH, MODERN AND THEMATIC BOX...

...BUT INSIDE, THE SHOP IS STILL A SHOP...THE HYPERMARKET IS STILL A HYPERMARKET....

...WHAT A PITY!!!
